I'm not sure we quite have enough people for an exchange~ but I think it would be fun <3 (especially as most of the other ideas I would do anyway without the challenge ^^;;;) . Posting themes (monthly or otherwise?) anyway might be a fun option to consider anyway though? perhaps? and a good way to sort out podfics when the com gets larger?
I do agree with not having really enough people for an exchange, but if we consider going up to 10 people, it may be doable? With the assumption those voting for exchanges will do it? Maybe starting with a themed one would be easier now that we're very few.. remember our porn themed challenge and how people randomly jumped in, even if they aren't regular podficcers.
A decent amount of people are replying in favor of exchanges though and it wouldn't be a terribly hard exchange to do? Themed challenges are fun though, I just think an exchange would be more interesting :D/ and we might get more variety that way..*rolls* though I admit to being wary of signing up to something that isn't a blind exchange because what if your assignment submits impossible fics to do or ones you hate? So I only fancy the exchange idea much if it's a blind one...more thought put into trying to find a way to please your assignment too...
OR IMPOSSIBLY LONG ONES. But I wouldn't want to read sthg they don't care about at all though. I think tho setting a min-max range would solve the length problem tho. I voted for probably reading your assignments' or their faves, but you're probably right. There's the possibility of impossible faves and scaring non-writers. Most exchanges are blind-ish in the end, it seems like the best way to run it .__.?
Right..what if someone only asked for 50k+ fics :( which if you honestly wanted to podfic for someone would be great but otherwise..>_>;.
To me...only having the option of podficcing three fics from a list they submitted, takes away the fun, surprise and research aspect of an exchange. Because then it just feels like a commission and they may as well read it themselves (.__.) ..it's just not appealing to me =/ it seems to eliminate all the thought you would exert to try and select something to really charm or suprise someone and it's hard to be enthusiastic about that imo.. =/
At the moment it seems like a themed challenge would be easiest to start with, and then build up to an exchange a bit later in the year? (As a distraction from writing JE Hols fic? XD)
I definitely see your point in lists taking away the secret (aka, fun) aspect of an exchange. Though I think a little direction would be helpful in narrowing the potential field down a bit - perhaps something along the lines of K-X requests? You indicate the pairings, ratings, and genres you're happy to receive, and then the rest is up to the podficcer? That way people are able to choose fic of a length and style they're comfortable with as well.
We could do a secret theme challenge? Everyone signs up, I write out however many themes to match the number of participants, then fold 'em up, go down the list and draw each person's theme out of a hat XD
Oh yes~ you would definitely want some sort of sign up form to indicate what the person actually fancies, you could even allow the option perhaps for them just giving a listing of a sampling of their favorite fic writers perhaps to specify it even more? I just think only allowing for pre determined fics makes it a bit bland in concept ^^;;.
The idea of a secret challenge sounds really fun actually~ variety is always entertaining and you won't have issues with limited fic for the theme and multiple peeps wanting do the same three fics or some such thing ~ ;D/
Hehehe, for you it would be a distraction from the wait ;D
Exchange sign-up - CHECK. I'd hesitate on favourite fic writers just because people are more likely to just click on the first name and scroll down their master list until they find something suitable *is totally not guilty of this, uh uh*. We would also likely get a lot of double ups, and while a challenge full of Fitz!fic would be awesome, variety is as you say the spice of life ^_~
And I like being sneaky and knowing things people don't! >D Secret theme it is!
I think an exchange would encourage more people to take part, maybe? And I'm not so keen on a straight-to-pod challenge, as awesome as the idea is, because then only writers would want to take part. Aaand crossovers, or rarepairs, because much as i adore Akame, it would be nice to see more of other pairings too 8Dv ooh and also, if it was an exchange, maybe offer for the participants to choose when they sign up between having their own fics podded, or choosing a selection of favourites; or just picking three in general, and they can use their own and others if they want? Otherwise again, if you only let them ask for their own fics, it's only going to be people who have written before taking part.
For the moment I think a themed challenge would be easiest to start with, though you're right, exchanges always seem to draw people in (cos they're getting something out of it ^_~). I'm thinking to run an exchange a bit later in the year, maybe as a distraction from JE Hols writing/waiting XD
There were suggestions made above that narrowing the field of choice so much feels more like a commission than a secret exchange - perhaps a generalised request form, a la K-X sign-ups, would help to give some direction while still leaving the reader with plenty of room to pick and choose? And thus non-writers are also free to participate ^_^
ARGH crap and here I've been basing everything on Themed winning out T_T
But still, an exchange might be something best eased into? One theme challenge to start, as a kind of practise run for an exchange to happen maybe in October (so JE Hols writers will still have a month either side XD)
Yes you do. This comm is very appreciative of new voices! :D
