OR IMPOSSIBLY LONG ONES. But I wouldn't want to read sthg they don't care about at all though. I think tho setting a min-max range would solve the length problem tho. I voted for probably reading your assignments' or their faves, but you're probably right. There's the possibility of impossible faves and scaring non-writers. Most exchanges are blind-ish in the end, it seems like the best way to run it .__.?
Right..what if someone only asked for 50k+ fics :( which if you honestly wanted to podfic for someone would be great but otherwise..>_>;.
To me...only having the option of podficcing three fics from a list they submitted, takes away the fun, surprise and research aspect of an exchange. Because then it just feels like a commission and they may as well read it themselves (.__.) ..it's just not appealing to me =/ it seems to eliminate all the thought you would exert to try and select something to really charm or suprise someone and it's hard to be enthusiastic about that imo.. =/
At the moment it seems like a themed challenge would be easiest to start with, and then build up to an exchange a bit later in the year? (As a distraction from writing JE Hols fic? XD)
I definitely see your point in lists taking away the secret (aka, fun) aspect of an exchange. Though I think a little direction would be helpful in narrowing the potential field down a bit - perhaps something along the lines of K-X requests? You indicate the pairings, ratings, and genres you're happy to receive, and then the rest is up to the podficcer? That way people are able to choose fic of a length and style they're comfortable with as well.
We could do a secret theme challenge? Everyone signs up, I write out however many themes to match the number of participants, then fold 'em up, go down the list and draw each person's theme out of a hat XD
Oh yes~ you would definitely want some sort of sign up form to indicate what the person actually fancies, you could even allow the option perhaps for them just giving a listing of a sampling of their favorite fic writers perhaps to specify it even more? I just think only allowing for pre determined fics makes it a bit bland in concept ^^;;.
The idea of a secret challenge sounds really fun actually~ variety is always entertaining and you won't have issues with limited fic for the theme and multiple peeps wanting do the same three fics or some such thing ~ ;D/
Hehehe, for you it would be a distraction from the wait ;D
Exchange sign-up - CHECK. I'd hesitate on favourite fic writers just because people are more likely to just click on the first name and scroll down their master list until they find something suitable *is totally not guilty of this, uh uh*. We would also likely get a lot of double ups, and while a challenge full of Fitz!fic would be awesome, variety is as you say the spice of life ^_~
And I like being sneaky and knowing things people don't! >D Secret theme it is!
