CHALLENGE #1 - Secret Theme

So, ladies and hypothetical gents, I present to you je_podfic's first official

SECRET THEME CHALLENGE! :D/

Dates
23rd July - Sign-ups open
1st  7th Aug - Sign-ups close
2nd  8th Aug - Secret themes go out
16th  22nd Aug - Podfics are due
19th  25th Aug - Posting begins :D


How it works

• You sign up and say yes, I would very much like to try my hand at recording something, with all flail and excitement very much welcome. Don't be shy, pimp it out to everyone you know! The more the merrier!
  
• At the end of sign-ups, I'll write out a number of general themes, as many as we have people, then fold 'em up, go down the list of participants, and draw everyone's theme out of a hat.
  
• KEEP YOUR THEME SECRET! It's no fun at all if you spill the beans early
  
• Find a fic that suits your theme. Be creative, be lateral, play 6 Degrees of Separation; if you can justify it, then it fits! (Don't forget to ask for permission if the fic is not your own ^_~)
  
• Upload your finished podfic and email/PM the link to me by August 16th (in whatever timezone you fancy)

I take all the help I can get! I do have some questions though. In my ignorance I'm thinking I have to read through a fic all at one go and get it right, like a director trying to make a movie and yelling 'Cut!' if there's an error. Is that right? Or do you try to act the voices out like a recorded book? Um, maybe yeah, a little how to guide.

Hehe, there's no right or wrong way to read a podfic. It's pretty much impossible to read an entire fic through perfectly - if I flub a sentence, I pause a second or two and read it again. If I don't like the delivery of a line, same thing, pause, read again. It's like a movie more in that the editing suite is where you cut and splice it all together into one continuous whole.

However reading it in one sitting, if not necessarily one "take", is preferable, just because often the sound of the background noise will change if you record at different times and the sudden change can be distracting. But that's just my opinion, others don't care too much about it ^_^;;
