# requests and # challenges

Just some quick announcements.

First, je_podfic is officially open for requests! ^_^

If there's a fic you really want to see/hear podficced, whether it's your own or someone else's, feel free to either comment to this post or make a request post of your own! Anything that gets more podfic into this fandom, I'm all for it :D

Second, I'm thinking about starting another podfic challenge here on the comm. I'm keen to get people's opinions on what kinds of things they'd like to see in a challenge - time-related, theme-related, things open to interpretation, exchanges, etc. Ideally, it would just be something fun with an end goal of generating more podfic for all of us to listen to ^_^

Thoughts or comments, I'd love to hear them!

Oh I'd love another challenge :D especially as time/circumstances didn't quite give me a chance to make the last one. A length one could be really interesting, say 15-20k word fics or longer? But given how almost everyone with the exception of you is fairly new to podficcing that might be a bit overwhelming right now? I'd be up for it though :D.

Themed ones really intrigue me too. An exchange might be a bit odd but fun, I've never seen a podfic exchange before...would that involve writing fic just for podficcing and recording it or just selecting one based off your recipients preferences and doing a recording of it?

I'm really keen on getting another challenge started soon... 'soon' being as soon as I have time to sit down and nut out the logistics of one XD

A mini-podbang is definitely something I'm considering, but I think it might be best held in reserve for a little later, maybe over August when people (aka, me XD) have more time to devote to fun things like podficcing. In terms of length challenges, I was also thinking of a hitokuchi one bite challenge - complete podfics in less than 10 minutes, and one can submit as many as one likes :D

A podfic exchange I envision working much in the same way as remix challenges do - people sign-up, assignments are given, the reader chooses a fic their assignment has written (or in a non-writer's case, from a submitted list of favourite fics?), and podfics it.

And a Straight To Podfic challenge is something I would absolutely love to do some time down the line, writing specifically for a spoken medium. No fic posts, just podfic! ♥♥♥

Personally I'm all for the mini-podbang but I definitely agree it might be best to wait till people (or you XD <3) have more time as editing lengthy podfic takes postively ages~.

Hrrrm a one bite challenge sounds like quite fun though~ pity I've already recorded a few favorite fics that would fall under that time limit XD;;;

Exchanges sound fun~ even in the case of writers I would suggest having the option to give them fic that they didn't write but who knows~ that might make it a tad complicated but would allow for more of an element of surprise just like fic exchanges? where if you can only record stuff they've written/from a list it might seem a bit chorish or redudant as opposed to researching their fic preferences and tailoring something? perhaps not though :D

A challenge sounds intriguing :) I'd be up for entering, though it would be a definite first. I'm interested to know how a podfic version of an exchange would run, I think that sounds like a lot of fun.

Any kind of challenge would be nice really, but a theme related one would be new, either writing then recording or just choosing other authors' fic on a select theme.

Awesome! The way I see a podfic exchange working is in much the same way as a remix exchange works - people sign up, you're given an assignment and you choose from among either the fics that person has written, or if they're a non-writer from a list of favourite fics they've submitted, and record.

Theme challenges would be open to both fics already written, or for writing one specifically for the challenge itself. I do have plans in the future to do a Straight to Podfic challenge, where fics are written specifically to be recorded - aka, no fic post to accompany, they've no other existence online but as podfics :D

You know, it'd be fun to read one of those long fics (and I mean 20k+) between several people. Like, assembling teams and reading them by scenes or something. See how it ends up with the voice changes.

I'm up for the theme/length challenges as well, even though I'm a beginner. And I'm sure there'll be more joining if there's enough poking ;) ♥

Multi-voice podfics are fun to listen to, but unless you're recording in the same room, they are a nightmare to edit. Different volume levels, varying sound qualities, recording formats, background noises... I shudder to think of the work involved ^^;;;;;

Although I am thinking of poking notaverse (and whoever else I can bully convince) into recording something while the INP is happening in September ^_~

I love the idea of several people reading a long fic! Having two readers works really nicely with the Wheel of Time audio books. I was thinking too that it might be interesting to have different people taking on each character, rather than just reading a chunk each, and then have another person doing the narration in between, but I don't know if that would be a bit jarring to the listener, even without thinking of how much extra work would have to go into the file editing...

And I'd like another challenge that wasn't focused on porn.. Maybe a humourous one? Humour seems like it would be pretty challenging to read successfully, so it would be even more of a challenge then! 8D

Multi-voice work really needs to be done in the same recording space, otherwise the amount of editing and manipulation that would be required to get each voice to the same volume and quality frankly beggars imagination XD;;;. Getting people into the same room to record would be awesome though!

Hehe, me too! I know the NC-17 aspect put off a lot of people. Humour is certainly on my list of theme topics. At the moment I'm debating whether to kick off with a theme or a length challenge... it may soon be poll time ;D
